Why I do what I do

The most meaningful stories are rarely the loudest ones.
They're found in everyday moments, quiet interactions and genuine human connection.
That's what has always drawn me to photography.

Whether I'm documenting life in a remote community, photographing an event or working with an organisation to tell its story, my goal remains the same: to create images that help people understand, connect and care.

To me, photography isn't about creating moments.
It's about recognising the ones that already exist.

How I work

Every story starts with trust.

I believe authentic photography can only happen when people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. That's why I spend time listening, observing and understanding the people I'm photographing before I ever think about directing them.

Rather than staging scenes, I immerse myself in the environment and let moments unfold naturally.

This documentary approach allows me to create photographs that feel honest, timeless and emotionally engaging—images that reflect not only what happened, but what it felt like to be there.

What I bring to organisations

Great photography doesn't just document an organisation.

It reveals the people, values and purpose behind it.

Whether I'm working with an NGO, a business, a public institution or a cultural organisation, I aim to create visual stories that strengthen communication and build trust.

Clients value my ability to quickly connect with people from different backgrounds, work independently in unfamiliar environments and translate complex stories into authentic imagery.

The photographs we create together can support annual reports, campaigns, editorial publications, recruitment, internal communication and brand storytelling—but above all, they help organisations communicate with authenticity.

I'm Ken Hanssens, a documentary photographer based in Belgium.

My work explores the intersection of people, purpose and place.

Over the years I've photographed travels in remote regions, businesses, events and communities across different cultures, always searching for the human stories that connect us.

When I'm not working on commissioned assignments, you'll usually find me developing long-term personal documentary projects—because they continually shape the way I see the world and influence every client collaboration.
